Maybe you think it is almost impossible that people have the heart to scam other people who are trying to rebuild their credit score, but it is a fact. There are bad people who can do anything to get money, including here scamming people who want to repair their credit. Some bad companies target these bad credit people since they are vulnerable and those companies take advantages from it. The victims are usually unaware about it and when they realize that they have been scammed, it’s just too late. So, make sure to do proper researches before you sign the contract.

Fortunately, you can notice a company reputation in several ways before you decide to work with them. Proper verification procedure is important to ensure you will not get scammed in the future. You have to consider several things, including here service fees, illegal acts, and several other aspects.

When you work with a credit repair agency they are supposed to keep you entirely informed throughout the entire process. If you have questions that the agency will not give you a straight forward answer with then you might not want to work with them. You have the right to ask questions. It is your credit you are fixing. Don’t go with any company who doesn’t give you a straight answer and is honest with you. In addition, they should keep you informed throughout the entire process. If they are not you might want to consider going with someone else. Scammers usually make people think that information is confidential and they cannot tell you. There is nothing that you should not be told about your credit.

Always read a contract before you sign it. Thousands of people are scammed every year due to illegitimate businesses scamming people while they want to fix their credit. It is important to be sure that you read all of the fine print. Read every little word on the contract and be sure there is nothing printed that does not look right. If there is have a new contract drawn up without the stipulations you do not agree with. If the business will not draw a contract you agree to then go with someone else. You do not want to be scammed.

Choosing the right company can be a difficult decision when it comes to credit repair. Everyone seems like they are scamming you and it may be hard to trust anyone. The most important thing is to be sure the company is certified and that they are a non-profit agency. A company that wants to make money on helping you repair your credit is not in it for the best interest of the consumer but for themselves. If they are going to make money on your debts they are most likely going to scam you. Be sure there are no fees and no hidden costs with a company you choose.

There are many things to think about when you want to avoid being scammed in repairing your credit. The best ways to avoid a scam include repairing your credit on your own, paying close attention to the company and being very clear about what your rights are. Educate yourself. Don’t go with any company that makes you feel uncomfortable in any way. Read all of the fine print before you sign a contract and be comfortable with who you choose to help you repair your credit. These things are very important.

If it’s been a while since you’ve looked at your credit report, you may be surprised to find errors, mistakes, or even a black mark or two. Fortunately, a Credit Repair Company can help you fix those mistakes and erase those black marks. Watch out for scammers, though, and choose a reputable Credit Repair Company with these tips:

Don’t pay anything up-front

Avoid a Credit Repair Company that wants you to hand over a fee or payment before they meet with you. Reputable companies will first talk to you, assess your credit report and discuss your current situation before asking for any type of payment for their services. An up-front fee is a red flag that the company will probably take your money and run. And no matter what type of charges you may incur, be sure they aren’t exorbitant. If a Credit Repair Company claims your case will cost thousands of dollars, look for another one.

Watch out for “re-inventors”

Some companies will tell you that you can wipe your credit slate clean by “re-inventing” yourself with a new social security number. But that’s not true! In most cases, what they plan to do is get you a new credit report by applying for an Employee Identification Number (EIN)–used by businesses–which resembles a social security number, and you’re told to use it as such. But this practice, known as “file segregation,” is a scam, and it’s also illegal! Avoid any Credit Repair Company that suggests this practice.

Look for one that helps you help yourself

A good Credit Repair Company will tell you (for free!) what you can do yourself, such as writing letters to creditors and contacting the credit reporting bureaus about errors. Avoid any Credit Repair Company that encourages you to do anything illegal or unethical–such as disputing a legitimate charge or fee on your credit report.

Before signing up with any Credit Repair Company, make sure you check with the Better Business Bureau. They’ll have records of any formal complaints against the company, so you can avoid scammers and rip-off artists.

Credit is something that some take lightly or give little thought to until it’s really needed. There are 10 things that you can do to make sure that your credit is always in good standing so it will be available when needed.

1) Pay your bills on time. A consistent history of timely payments will greatly improve your credit profile and will, therefore, make you more desirable to lenders. In many cases, a strong payment history in your credit reports will also result in better interest rates.

2) If possible, pay your bill in full every month. This will help to save you money in finance charges, especially credit cards with high interest rates, and will make your credit reports even stronger.

3) Avoid carrying a balance of more than 50% of your total credit limit on any credit card.

4) If you notice any incorrect information on your credit reports, dispute it in writing with the credit bureau immediately. You may also find it helpful to contact the creditor directly, notify them of the incorrect information and ask that they correct it with the credit bureau and on each of your credit reports.

5) If you have recently filed for bankruptcy, start rebuilding your credit with either a secured credit card or one that is known to be bankruptcy-friendly. The latter often requires higher interest be paid, but your credit score will begin to rise after three months of a steady payment history is listed in your credit reports.

6) If you have old accounts that are listed as being open, but are actually closed, call the creditor and send a letter to the credit bureau. Often times, creditors simply never report an account as being closed with the credit bureaus. If you have a lot of available credit on your report, potential lenders may wonder why you need all of this open credit and what your plans are for it’s use. A large number of apparently open accounts with a zero balance may put you in the high risk loan category if the lender suspects you plan to increase your debt load substantially with your unused credit.

7) Avoid excessively applying for credit as this may lower your credit score because of multiple inquiries.
Use your credit cards for necessities only and avoid spending more than you could repay within six months.

9) If your credit cards have excessively high credit limits that you never plan to use, call the creditor and ask that they reduce your credit limit to an amount that you are comfortable with. This will not only reduce the temptation of overspending, but will also prevent potential lenders from seeing that you have a lot of available credit and suspecting that you plan to go into serious debt.

10) The best way to improve your credit reports is to review the information filed with each of the three major credit bureaus every six months. These include TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. A free copy of credit reports can be obtained every 12 months at AnnualCreditReport.com

Here are 10 surefire score boosters

Increase your limits

Call your credit card company and ask to have your limit raised. High credit lines help to improve debt ratios, positively impacting score. A balance of $3,000 on an account that has a limit of $4,000 results in a debt ratio of 75%. A debt ratio of 75% makes a borrower looked “maxed out,” negatively impacting score. In this case, if the total line could be raised to $6,000, the debt ratio would be reduced to 50%, positively affecting the consumer’s score.

Never pay late

Negative items posted to a spotless record have a greater impact on than negative items posted to a profile that already contains a history of late payments. If your credit is “perfect” and you get 30 days behind on your car loan, the effect could be dramatic-25 to 60 points, for example.

Do your shopping within a 14-day window

The scoring model lumps auto and home loan inquiries made within a 14-day timeframe together. Car dealerships, for example, need to pull credit in order to see what financing a borrower is qualified to receive. The same goes for home loans. If you are in the market for a home or auto loan, do all of your shopping within a 14-day period so that the multiple inquiries will be counted as a single inquiry.

Stay away from department store accounts

The scoring model looks less favorably on store charge cards than it does on VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. “Would you like to save 10% by opening a Target card?” These offers sound tempting, but taking advantage of such offers can have a negative impact on your FICO rating. However, closing existing gas or department store accounts could hurt your score if those accounts have established histories.

Do not close unused accounts

Closing unused accounts deletes established credit history. If you have a card with five or more years of established history, hang on to it. The scoring model looks favorably on well-established histories. If you have balances, closing unused accounts also raises your debt ratios, negatively affecting your score. Remember that you can always cut up the plastic, but keep the account open to preserve account history.

Avoid finance companies

The scoring system frowns on finance companies. Pay off finance company debts and never again use finance companies.

Don’t let charge cards collect dust

The scoring model takes into account how long it has been since a certain account was used. Utilized credit lines (assuming they are paid in a timely manner) positively affect credit score. Cards that collect dust in your dresser drawer do not help your FICO rating.

3 or more significant relationships

If your FICO file is “thin,” work to establish three or more significant credit relationships-a home loan, a car loan, and a VISA card, for example.

The past 2 years are most important

The FICO model gives more serious consideration to recent items. Your previous 24 months of history is crucial. If you have had a bankruptcy, charge off or foreclosure that is more than two years old, you should still qualify for a home loan if your past 24 months of history is spotless.

Check your report for errors

Realize that 25% of credit reports contain errors sufficient to deny consumers access to credit.

When it comes to finding free things in life, most people will tell you not to even bother holding your breath because nothing comes for free. Too often that holds true even though that is a sad thing to realize. There are cases though that is different then the rest and it is possible to find yourself a free credit repair service. For people who meet certain income requirements, there may be non-profit organizations that are willing to help at no cost to the customer. These free credit repair services are hard to come by though so it is probably going to take a lot of looking around on your part to make it happen.

One way to find a free credit repair service is to contact someone just starting their credit repair business. They will need the experience and may be willing to provide the service free of charge. This will help them get their business off the ground and help their new client as well.

Of course a person like this is not easy to come by. But it doesn’t hurt to talk to others who may know of someone starting up their own business. This is a situation that you will have to search for but it may prove to be worth your effort. It could be a great savings for you.

Another Option

If you have a business or service that you can provide maybe you can barter for the services of a credit repair company. Put an ad in the newspaper or advertise on line to see if anyone would be willing to provide credit repair service in exchange for your services.

If you have a skill or a talent you may be able to use that to your advantage. Offer to give lessons and teach your skill in exchange for help repairing your credit. You may be surprised at the positive results that come from a little creative thinking.

If you have a friend or someone in the family who has experience in this sort of thing you may be able to get some free credit repair services from them. Maybe they worked for a company before that offered credit repair services and they learned all the tricks of the trade.

You may know someone who has been through it before in their personal life and they have picked up enough to help you with some free credit repair services. In turn, by the time you are all done, you will have learned a lot and can later turn around and help someone else that is in need.

So you’ve heard about repairing your credit, but you’re not sure whether you should bother. Is it a worth the effort? Well, we live in interesting times. Who would have thought that multinational banks and other global companies would be in the sort of financial difficulties that we hear about almost daily on the news. It is no surprise, with new lending no longer as freely available as it was only six months ago that you and I are more concerned about our financial position than previously. If you are still not convinced then here are five good reasons why you should not ignore the warnings and take action today.

1. Restoring Your Peace of Mind: Do you getted stressed out by the day to day juggling of your financial affairs? Don’t you wish you were on top of things so you could sleep easier at night? What if something unforeseen happens that you can’t afford to deal with, how will you cope? If you do need to borrow money at short notice will you find anyone who will lend to you? Does it bother you that you don’t know for sure? In short, if any of these ring true leaving your finances in the position they are is not worth the distress you are causing yourself. Start fixing your finances today and see how your happiness improves.

2. Increase Your Income: Each of us who have significant borrowings know only too well how the monthly interest payments can really make a dent in your available income each month. A properly executed credit repair programme can lead to lower debt levels which in turn frees up more cash for you to spend on yourself.

3. Not In Control?: If you have significant borrowings it is quite likely that your income versus your expenditure does not add up. You seem to find yourself in a viscious downward spiral of borrowing more and more just to stay ahead. As a result you are pushed from one difficulty to another but you never seem to be able to get get in front of your problems. There is a way. Identifying each problem, write it down, formulate an action plan, be disciplined and take control today.

4. Worrying About The Future: Are you living with your head in the sand, worried all the time about what tomorrow might bring and find that the only way you can function is to ignore the difficulties you face, knowing that at some point the problems will bite? If you are like this then you really need to start repairing your credit today. We never know what tomorrow might bring, it might bring us riches beyond our wildest dreams, or it can present us with expensive problems to solve. By starting to fix your finances today you can at least know that you will be able to deal with most of the problems life can throw in your way.

5. Self Worth: You are deeply in debt. You struggling to cope each month. If you took control, started a credit repair programme and actually solved your financial difficulties, would you not feel good about yourself? I think you would? Credit repair is actually quite simple. You can devise a step by step process to resolve your financial issues and in doing so you can get a real sense of achievement. You can do this.

I hope these five reasons are are strong enough to convince you that starting fixing your credit today is a worthwhile thing to undertake. Unfortunately, no-one is likely to step forward to volunteer to do it for you without charging you a great deal of money, something you probably cannot afford anyway. Don’t wait, take control and start fixing your credit score now?

So you find yourself in accord financial position and your credit has suffered as a result. As you try to find a solution to repair your credit you come across an advertisement for one of a thousand credit repair companies that have emerged seemingly overnight. It sounds too good to be true and it often is. There is no easy way fix credit that quickly and though these companies claim to repair your credit in the blink of eye all that they are typically doing is parting you with your money and accomplishing nothing.

Before seeking the advice or services of a credit repair agency you should know the following:

Be cautious of any advertisements that claim repair/fix a poor credit rating. Though a repair company may make a promise that they will improve your credit rating, in reality, there is no credit repair agency that has the power or ability to alter or expunge any truthful information on your credit file.

Be on the lookout for any companies that will fix bad credit for a fee. This fee is often pretty hefty and is typically due in advance. These repair agencies make the claim to have the negative credit information taken off the record, they claim to be able to eliminate history that includes bankruptcy, late payments etc. Be aware that The North American Consumer Credit Reporting Act is quite clear that no information may be removed for a period of seven years unless it is inaccurate.

It is illegal for credit repair companies to charge a costumer before they can provide results. This includes down payment or payment of any kind. Before payment may be requested there has to be proof that the clients credit was better as a result of actions taken by the repair company.

Another fact is that is illegal for any credit repair agency Its advertise a claim that says that they can improve your credit score. They most first look at your credit history before making such a claim.

Remember that credit repair takes time and only you have the ability to effectively raise your credit score. Dont be fooled by scammers and false advertising.

Unfortunately these days having a credit checking system is as important as having car insurance. Luckily there are some agencies that will give you a free credit score instantly. There are many reasons why you would want a free credit score. Maybe you are looking into renting an apartment or buying a house. Maybe you need an auto loan. Or maybe you just want to keep an eye on your credit to make sure your identity is still safe. Whatever the reasons may be here is a quick guide on interpreting credit report scores.

With a free credit report you will be able to see all 3 credit scores from the top 3 major credit bureaus. The top 3 major credit bureaus are Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. What you are looking for are your overall FICO score as well as any blemishes on your record to determine if you identity has been stolen.

In order to determine what your FICO score means you can think of it like a report card for adults. An “A” will get you lower interest rates on credit cards, loans, and other financing. A “D” or an “F” means you may be denied for even the smallest things, such as a phone line. That is why it is so important to find out what you score.

So to make it simpler I will use FICO scores in terms of grades. The FICO score maximum is 850, although that is pretty tough to get. If your credit score is at 760 or above your grade would be an “A”. Anything that is above a credit score 700 would be considered a “B”. A credit score 600 or above would be considered a “C” and anything that is below a 600 would be considered a “D” or an “F”.

So how do you improve your credit rating? There are a few things you will want to keep in mind. First of all every time someone looks into your credit it adversely affects your credit score. Do your research and find out which companies you want to apply for credit with before sending out too many applications. You will also want to keep in mind that the more credit you have, the lower your score will be.

Some people get a credit card because of the 0% APR for a certain period of time, then as soon as that period expires they move on to another credit card offer and cancel the first credit card. This is a mistake as creditors are looking for long history with companies.

Should you attempt self help credit repair, or should you leave it to the professionals and hire a credit repair agency? This is a decision everyone must make before they start repairing their credit. So which one should you choose? Actually, there is no single right answer to this question. Both methods work, and they both have advantages and disadvantages which we will discuss here.

A major advantage to repairing your credit yourself is the money it will save you. You would only need to pay for postage for your correspondence with the credit bureaus, creditors, and collectors; and the costs to obtain copies of your credit reports. You also may wish to subscribe to an online service that allows you to monitor your credit scores for a monthly fee, since your scores will not be listed on your credit reports.

You can expect to pay an average of $100 monthly for credit repair services, although some agencies charge much more, or even a little less.

Of course you are probably interested in saving money, but please be advised that fixing your own credit can be quite time-consuming. Not only is disputing information on your credit reports in itself time-consuming, but before you even begin you must do your homework! Legal credit repair is made possible solely by the laws that protect you as a consumer.

If you do not truly comprehend these laws, you won’t be able to use them to your advantage in order to repair your credit. There is no shortcut; you will need to spend the hours of reading necessary to learn the laws. Your credit repair efforts won’t be successful if you don’t understand the laws and how they are applied, so if you don’t have the time or patience to learn them, self help credit repair may not be for you.

Another point to keep in mind is that credit repair can sometimes be difficult for most people simply because they are not used to dealing with credit reporting agencies, creditors, and debt collectors. Intentionally or not, they seem to have their ways of making credit repair tough for the average consumer; truth be told it doesnt serve their interests for you to fix your bad credit, so they are not inclined to make things any easier for you. However, credit repair agencies are well-versed at handling this issue, and they know the best way to respond.

Granted, with some experience and research, you would probably become more skilled at handling it also, but it can be so disheartening when your efforts are shot down over and over, that it is enough to make many people give up. It all comes down to how much patience you have and how high your frustration threshold is.

People have been successful at repairing their credit both by hiring someone to do it for them, and by doing it themselves. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, so ultimately your decision should be based on how much time, patience, and finances you have at your disposal. If you feel confident enough to tackle credit repair yourself, or if you just cant afford to pay a credit repair agency to do the work for you, you might want to try doing it yourself.

However, if you don’t mind paying for convenience and can afford to pay for credit repair services, this option may be more suitable for you. (If you opt to use a credit repair company, never hire one until you have carefully investigated it to make sure it is reputable.)
